It’s rare for extended families to gather in one place. With work schedules, school activities, and distance, getting everyone together can feel like an impossible task. This is why capturing these precious moments in photos at the beach with extended family are so important. They capture those rare, cherished moments when multiple generations come together by the beach.
Whether it’s grandparents with their grandchildren, siblings or cousins, extended family photos preserve the legacy of love and connection within a family. These photos become treasured, telling the unique story of your family.
Family photos serve as a visual record of your family’s growth over the years. They showcase relationships, document bonds, and create a memories of love and togetherness.
Extended family sessions are perfect for marking special occasions—anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, or even just a rare moment when everyone is together.
Time passes quickly, and loved ones may not always be near. These photos freeze moments in time, giving families something to look back on and cherish for years to come.
Professional family portraits make meaningful gifts, whether it’s a framed print for grandparents, an album for parents, or digital images to share with relatives near and far.
One of the biggest concerns during an extended family session is making sure that every family unit gets their own photos.
Before the session, I create a customized list to ensure every family gets their turn. This usually includes:
Everyone ( whole Extended Family)
Grandparents with grandkids
Individual family units
Siblings and OG groups Cousins together
Couples (Grandparents, parents, newlyweds, etc.)
Kids solo or with each parent
There is even time for splashing in the waves at the end of our session or whatever fits your family,
Capturing the full extended family photos is the most important to me and getting it done early helps keep little ones happy before they lose interest. After the big group photos, I begin working through different family combinations. I move efficiently from one group to the next, keeping the session fun with prompts and games to help everyone relax and be themselves.
While posed portraits are a important, I also love capturing natural interactions—grandparents laughing with their grandkids, cousins playing, or a sweet moment between parents and children. These real moments often become the most cherished images.
